Thuli Mokgele is a Chartered Accountant (SA) with more than 14 years of post-qualification experience across auditing, academia, taxation and governance. She is a lecturer in taxation at the University of South Africa and is pursuing a PhD focused on fiscal policy options to support the development of South Africa’s green hydrogen industry. Her research examines how fiscal and industrial policy instruments can be designed to support domestic decarbonisation, industrial development, investment mobilisation and a just energy transition. Her current paper, “Designing fiscal and industrial policies for South Africa’s green hydrogen industry that achieve domestic decarbonisation and industrial development goals”, considers how South Africa can move beyond green hydrogen export ambitions and design policies that support broader domestic economic and developmental outcomes. Thuli also serves as a non-executive director on various boards, contributing strategic oversight informed by her financial, governance and policy expertise.
