Gerald Hatirutyi Macheka is an economist, research communicator, and MSc Economics candidate at the University of Zimbabwe (expected 2026). He serves as Senior Economist and Chief Editor at Equity Axis, a leading financial research and advisory firm in Zimbabwe, where he leads research communication, editorial strategy, and data-driven economic analysis for corporates, policymakers, and the public across Southern Africa. He is also a regular media commentator on regional and international platforms, providing analysis on macroeconomic developments, industrial policy, and economic trends.

His work lies at the intersection of industrial policy, climate finance, and economic development, with a growing focus on how technological change, the energy transition, and shifts in global value chains are reshaping Africa's industrialisation trajectory. His current research contributes to emerging debates on green industrialisation, digital transformation, industrial policy, and innovative financing mechanisms for structural economic transformation across the continent.

Gerald is a Wagon to Africa Fellow at the University of Foggia, Italy, where he conducted research on the distributional effects of off-grid solar adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa. The fellowship strengthened his interest in sustainable development, energy access, and evidence-based policymaking, which continue to inform his research and professional work.
