Director in Market Access Negotiations | DTI

Thembekile Mlangeni is a Director in Market Access Negotiations at the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition. Her areas of competence in trade policy are industrial tariffs, technical barriers to trade including non-tariff barriers, rules of origin, and trade facilitation for multilateral, regional and bilateral trade negotiations. She is an experienced researcher and author in quantitative and qualitative trade analysis and research that underpins trade negotiations.  She is also an experienced international trade negotiator and represented South Africa at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland for eight years as a market access negotiator. She chaired the WTO rules of origin committee for 2018/19. She continues to provide leadership in international trade negotiations at a technical level. Her current area of work includes projects in international trade negotiating issues under the WTO, the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), SADC-Economic Partnership Agreement, and SACU-European Free Trade Association.
