Shawn Cunningham is a partner in the international development consultancy Mesopartner (based in Germany) and a Professor of Practice with the DST/NRF/Newton Fund Trilateral Chair in Transformative Innovation, the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Sustainable Development hosted by the College of Business and Economics at the University of Johannesburg. In his work as a process consultant, he supports a range of institutions, leaders, and advisors on topics such as making decisions under uncertain conditions, strengthening the resilience of institutional networks, or improving the dynamics of learning in societies. His practice is focused on technological and institutional change and how the dynamism of learning and innovation between stakeholders can be improved. He is an international advisor to several think tanks, universities, development organisations and governments worldwide. From October 2020 to August 2022, he was a council member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council for Economic Growth and Recovery. He currently leads the Technological Change and Innovation System Observatory project hosted by TIPS.
