Kiru Sichoongwe is a Zambian Economist. He is a Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the department of DSI/NRF South African Research Chair (SARChI) in Industrial Development, within the College of Business and Economics, at the University of Johannesburg. Before that, Kiru was a Lecturer of Economics at Cavendish University Zambia (2014-2019), where he also served as the Head for the Department of Business, Finance & Economics (2017-2019). He has also worked as a Research Associate at the International Food Policy Research Institute (2013-2014) in Malawi, and as a Statistician at the Zambia Statistics Agency (2008-2013). Kiru holds a doctoral degree in Economics from Peking University. His research areas are agriculture economics, industrial policy, industrial upgrading, structural change, technology and innovation.
